Job Summary

The Youth and Outreach Coordinator (YOC) will provide programming and education to youth in OPPC and Northern Indianapolis, working alongside other community organizations that resource the needs of young people. Within OPPC, the YOC will be responsible for leading and growing a Christ-centered youth ministry and providing enthusiastic leadership to recruit, support, and maintain participation of youth. The Youth Director will collaborate with Senior Pastor and ministry teams, and provide leadership to recruit, train and support volunteers. Within the community (Hamilton and Northern Marion counties), the YOC will partner with community resources to identify needs for youth in our community and create programming opportunities for youth within the community. 


Responsibilities


Build relationships with OPPC youth:

• Develop a relationship with OPPC youth to encourage a deeper relationship with Christ. This includes group interactions, connection on social media, one-on-one and informal get-togethers, and attending youth’s activities outside of church. 

• Encourage and equip our youth to be leaders at OPPC as well as in the community. 

• Communicate effectively with our youth, their parents and members of the youth group through a variety of methods - such as phone, email, bulletins, website, social media, etc. 

• Maintain a relationship with Orchard Park families. 


Programming within OPPC:

• Lead youth discipleship efforts through the creation and support of Jesus-centered, growth-oriented ministries. 

• Organize and lead a national/international mission trip (i.e. Caravan) and a spiritual retreat each year for OPPC youth. Encourage and shepherd youth to participate in appropriate missions.

• Shepherd OPPC youth to be active in other Christian youth activities and mission projects in the community

• Recruit, coordinate, equip, and support adult volunteers to sponsor/assist youth activities

• Programs, ministry volunteers, and number of people involved should grow as the church grows. 


Youth outreach in the community:

• Work with schools, community groups, and youth-based organizations to identify and develop partnerships for youth engagement. 

• Working with other community youth leaders, create materials and resources for young people. Lead programs/events/service projects for young people, both at OPPC and in the Northern Indianapolis Area. 

• Increase community awareness of our programs in youth populations and throughout the Northern Indianapolis area. Communicate and market programs to prospective participants and parents through various forms of communication (calls, emails, inperson, school visits). Direct outreach and recruitment to schools, organizations, libraries, etc. to increase attendance at public workshops

• Recruit and train volunteers to work alongside youth. 


Other: 

• Expectation is that the YOC will direct 50% of his/her time specifically toward OPPC youth relationships/ministries and 50% toward outreach/community efforts. 

• Meet with the OPPC Youth Ministry Team at least quarterly to plan upcoming events. 

• Attend OPPC staff meetings and one-on-ones with the Senior Pastor to coordinate youth ministry with the entire church calendar. 

• Work within designated church budget and Crossways Endowment. Help to plan and implement youth fundraisers when necessary. 

• Attend quarterly session meetings and give a youth report. 


Qualifications

• Strong background in Reformed Theology. A grounded Christ-follower with a deep personal relationship with Jesus

• Self-directed individual who embraces the opportunity to build strong relationships with students and community partners. Understanding of and commitment to youth development and Christian formation

• A self-starter with experience working with youth, serving on a church staff, and organizing and leading Christian youth ministries

• Strong interpersonal skills with youth and adults; exceptional listener and communicator

• A team player who is supportive of all ministries of the church

• College graduate or equivalent. 

• Strong experience in social media. Proficiency with MS Office, Google apps, and social media. Experience with MailChimp and SurveyMonkey a plus. Experience with Canva and/or graphic design software preferred


Hours / Work Environment

• Full time, reporting to the Senior Pastor

• Ability and willingness to work occasional nights or weekends, as necessary. 

• Compensation: Salary Negotiable ($55,000 - $60,000), paid vacation and other leave, 403B retirement plan after year one, employee medical benefits & life insurance
